โก Quick answer: TRUE = the statement matches the passage in meaning (paraphrased). FALSE = the passage contradicts it. NOT GIVEN = the passage neither confirms nor denies it. Never use your own knowledge โ only what is written.
The 4-step method
- Underline keywords + qualifiers (all, some, always, never)
- Locate the passage sentence (synonyms, not same words)
- Compare meaning, not vocabulary
- If you must “assume” to make it true/false โ it is NOT GIVEN
The 3 trap types
- Qualifier flip: passage “some” โ statement “all” = FALSE
- Comparison injection: statement adds “more than” not in text = NOT GIVEN
- Opposite verbs: increase vs decrease = FALSE
Why this question type kills bands
Students guess NOT GIVEN too rarely. Statistically, TFNG sets contain 1-2 NG answers โ if you have zero, recheck.
